Soooooooooo... I've been on the fence on this piece for a while. Mopani or Grapewood? I never did get it to "sink" in my ACF tank, it also was an algae magnet, it's been re-purposed for my WTF enclosure.

That also looks like Mopani to me. Grapewood is more tan, but Bill should weigh in for sure. I have already shown my ignorance on wood once today lol.

Aged grape wood. The grain is too "loose" to be mopani. Mopani is very dense and has a very tight grain, which is why it's great for aquatic tanks. Dense wood sinks. Also, mopani won't normally crack along the grain like that. Only a less dense would will. I bet that piece weighs next to nothing, doesn't it?

Paul, that neherp moss is really nice! Also, I've always really loved the look of pillow moss, but have heard several times that it dies out in vivariums. Have you had better luck with it?

Aw, thanks! Although it can be frustrating at times, I really do love this process. It's pretty awesome that we can create our own little slice of nature in our homes

Yup, it is fairly light. I figured when it was not sinking it was grape wood, part of the reason I stopped using it in an aquatic set up. Would it be wise to not use it in a WTF enclosure?

Bill, I am so relieved to hear that it is Mopani after all! It's a pretty beautiful chunk of wood, so I'm glad I get to keep it!

Let it go for a bit. See how it fares. If you get any mold, I would yank it immediately.

I have had varying luck with pillow moss. It seems if I put 2 or 3 pieces of it in a Vivarium 2 of the 3 will green right up and the third will brown up. When it does get good and green it is very pretty.

I am posting some updated plant pics in my Mantella thread. It will have some of the NeHerp (christmas moss? Bill can help identify it).

Assuming my grapewood does not do well in the long run, what would be a better type of wood to use? I assume ghost wood would be my best bet. I just hate buying it online because you just never know what you will get.

Michael, if you place on order with NeHerp and then email them and let them know your order number and send them a pic of the enclosure along with a brief description of what you are wanting to do with the wood they are great and trying to pick you a great piece of wood for your needs

If you do order it from NeHerp and email them let them know Paul P from the frog forum sent ya and says Hi
