Default white tree frog skin problems

iv just been and checked my white tree frogs and noticed that the ones has a bluish/purple back. it has a tiny bit of skin that is flappy, it seems to me the skin has peeled off leaving it exposed and blue. weve had the 2 frogs for about 2 wks now. the other seems to b fine, no problems eating, growing, moving around but this one doesnt seem to move much and seems to b smaller than the other. also last night he was taking gulps (u could see his belly moving) and then would open his mouth as if he was struggling to breathe (not sure if this is connected) or if this is normal. if anyone can give me any info id b greatful. i mist them a couple of times a day and try to make sure the humidity is right, although i am finding this difficult as it seems to b on the low side. thanks

It sounds like your frog has a bacterial infection, but I'm not completely sure. Bacterial infections are usually caused by stress (if you've had him for only two weeks, it could be he's still trying to adjust to his new environment). The best thing for you to do right now is to take him to the veterinarian, where his injury will be tested for antibiotic sensitivity. Experts recommend injecting antibiotics, so the veterinarian will probably do this. However, before you go, call to make sure they specialize in amphibians like tree frogs. Hope this helps!

This sounds like your frog was shedding. The struggling to breathe - did it look like the frog was yawning? If so that's definitely shedding. You can look on YouTube for videos of it if you're not sure. Shedding is definitely normal. I do agree with taking the frog to the vet. They're trained for this stuff. Just make sure it's a vet that has treated exotic pets on a regular basis. If you don't know of one, or if you can't find one. Try calling a local pet supply store like Petco or Petsmart. They usually have a store vet that is accustomed to dealing with such pets. Good luck!
