This was my American Toad's viv before I rearranged it:
There were multiple things I wanted to change, the landscape of the tank from almost desert looking to more of a woodland type area, the sand substrate, give them more hiding places, a proper water bowl, etc.
So, it was 1:00pm last Saturday when I decided to go out looking for a lichen covered stump... after about 20 minutes I found one, sawed the rear side of it flat (had to use a manual hand saw because it was very brittle wood) so it would sit against the back of the tank.
Covered the exposed end, creates a nice "hill" effect.
Added some moss and vines:
1 week later, I (well rather, the toads) removed some moss. They bacically tore up the stuff that wasn't secured down, so out it came!
Exo-Terra Plantation soil substrate on top of the stump for my "stump climbing" toad Bufo to burry in:
For "100% Terrestrial" amphibians, they sure love to climb!
Exo-Terra Plantation soil substrate (love the stuff!) for the rest of the tank, over top of the bottom layer of sand/soil mixture.
Their jungle jym! They love to climb on this branch:
New water bowl: (I always keep fresh water in it, Bufo had just soaked in it before the photos, so that's why the water is dirty.)
Half Log covered with moss:
Over all view: (sorry about the dirty glass!)
They really seem to like the stump, it's all hollowed out underneath of it (the round, base part of the stump is lifted about 1" off of the substrate) , so they burrow under it all the time now.
Also, with the climbing features, they are way more active, and much better climbers, Bruce, the smaller male, just leaps from near where the water bowl is to halfway up the branch, then climbs the rest of the way up to get on the stump.
Thanks for looking!
Any suggestions or comments?

I bet they love the stump for climbing and hiding purpose. I find it so funny that many sites say toads don't climb, I guess they don't visit the frogforum since just about everyone I know here has the non-climbing, climbing toads.
Amazing set-up Royce…..the perfect toad habitat! I really like the wood features and I think it’s great that they are more active. Climbing toads....maybe they’re morphing into treefrogs lolol
