Hi, I have an ornate that's roughly a years old from the petstore. He's been burried deep and asleep for a week now.
It's been really cold in Wales this last week.
..Is the frog cold so he's just sleeping off the winter weather?
..Is he tired from overindulging on crickets last week?
..Or is there something very wrong?
What are the temperatures in the tank? Are it's eyes open?
If they get too cold sometimes they will try to hibernate(estivate). You don't want them to do this until they are over a year old as recomended by breeders. You must maintain correct temps and humidity levels at all times. If it drops to far they will either try to hibernate or the frog will not be able to digest it food properly become ill and possibly die. You need to unbury him and check to make sure he is ok and then try and keep the climate correct within the enclosure. Temps should be 80 to 85 during the day and 75 to 79 at night. Humidity should remain from 70% to 80%.
Check on him and keep us posted.
Hi guys, thanks for repying. Yea everyday i check him, give him a gentle prod to check his temperature, his eyes are always wide open when i move his substrate to see him, and he wriggles a bit.
I always keep a diary especially for his activities and i monitor the two different temps on both sides. It has been very cold the last week so I've had the radiators on in the room to help him too.
He came out to play yesterday, had a bath, ate a bug, then snuggled up again. While i had the chance i checked everything on him, including his toes and under the legs. He's doing ok though.
I'll definetly get a bigger heat mat though. The small ones on the side of the glass tank but I thin the tank is too large for it too heat up effectively.
Thanks again.
