I saw a bait shop selling a bunch of toads mostly as feeders..so I was wondering if Pacman frog is immune to the poison toad unleash if consume wholly..will it harm my Pacman if I feed toad to them? Is it immune to the poison?white mucus they release..
Since some snakes are immune to their own kind poison is Pacman the same?
I know toad won't be the first choice on Pacman menu.but currently pinky/fuzzy are out of stock .so trying something else
No Owen they are not. Pacman frogs are immune to their own toxic secretions, but are vulnerable to all others. While some frogs toxins like from American Bullfrogs are weak and don't really do harm Toads are a lot more toxic. The toxin will make your frog sick if it doesn't kill it. Toads have large parotoid glands located behind the eyes which is where their toxins are manufactured and released. Frogs and toads of the same species are immune to their own toxins but will harm or kill those that are not of the same species.
Don't do it. You could kill your Pacman.
Thanks a lot.but now this makes me wonder what are those feeder toads for..if it's poisonous who the hell is gonna buy it as feeders or bait..
That aside feeding toads is a BIG no..how about Rock Frogs.?obviously not everyday but once a month like mice and pinky?Their skin is not toxic or poisonous or anything right?
I don't know much about Rock frogs, but the problem with feeder frogs is that if you don't know where they come from and whether they were kept in clean conditions to be sold as feeders you risk exsposing your Pacman to disease and parasites. Its too risky to just go to a bait shop and perchase feeder frogs and fish. Feeder frogs are ok once a month like mice, but the risks outweigh the pros.
Now I really don't know what they could possibly be using feeder toads for. Most people who have no knowledge of amphibians have no idea that all amphibians secrete some kind of toxin. While most just irritate the skin and eyes others can result in illness and even death. Toads are usually farely toxic. The saying you are what you eat comes to min here. If you were to use the toads as bait for fishing and the fish ingests the toad and in turn you eat the fish, you would be ingesting the toxins that are now in the fishes blood stream. Now ofourse it doesn't happen quite that fast and the toxins amount very miniscule, it is still not smart.
The bait shop obviously doesn't know anything about Amphibians. Be careful what you use as feeders. You can buy Hornworms which grow to very large sizes within a week and a half. Also known as Goliath worms. Very meaty and nutritious. While not a vertabrate they are still very good Pacman food.
Ic thx a lot.is dubia roaches good? I notice dubia are very pricy like 2 dubia=price of 1 mice....
Why is that..I can get a bag of 60 cricket for the price of ONE Dubia roach....
