Hello, I'm new to the frogging deal.. I've been intrigued with my saltwater tank for the past year, but have recently found a liking in the red eyed tree frog.
I would like my tree frog to be large, but not fat. It is to my understanding that females are "bigger" than males, but I'm not sure if that means fatter , or just plain grow longer.
I would like my tree frog to look like this ( Which I believe is a male but feel free to correct me if I am wrong) :
Or like this one:
YouTube - Red Eyed Tree Frog - SO CUTE!
I do NOT want my tree frog to look like this though ( Which is a female to my understanding)
Also, I'd like the frog to be more of a vibrant green, not a light dull green seen in some. I'm not sure if that has anything to do with the sex of the frog or not.
I have to order one online and I was thinking of going with one from generalexotics.com
Can any one point me in the direction of if I want a adult male or adult female?
Thanks!
The green changes color randomly so they will not always be that green.
I'm guessing you want a male. I hear females get fat if they're ready to lay eggs. (And females being longer generally seems to mean wider too, in my experience anyway)
Thanks. Does anyone know if the frog in the video is a male or female?
Both my male and female red-eyes are fat, relatively speaking. The female is twice the size of the males. The shade of green they appear to be is not an indication of gender, rather its of mood and/or lighting/surrondings.
If you haven't already done so, read my red-eyed leaf frog care sheet at the left-hand side of the page.
As always Kurt is here to save the day!
Do you read ALL the topics. Seems like you do.

I try to.
There's no way you can tell a male in one photo from a female in another photo (and often not even in the same photo) by colour/markings.

The only way I was able to sex my red-eyes (and my blue-webs) is that the males started calling and the females became ridiculously huge (compared to the males)
