Okay so crickets are my Red eyes main diet item. Most of the time I buy crickets from our pet store, but I also catch wild crickets and quarantine them for a few days while gut loading them. Being in the country there are many bugs to catch, so I was wondering what other bugs i could catch and feed to my frog.
Just to vary his diet.
There are many insects you can catch and here is a link to Frank's article on this subject: The Red-Eyed Treefrog - Notes on Captive Care and Natural History | That Reptile Blog

DO NOT use bugs from the wild. there are plenty of places you can buy food for your tree frog including online and pet stores. Bugs in the wild may contain pesticides. It is best to buy them from a petstore. mealworms, crickets, locusts, wax worms, moths, earth worms, anything. i would mainly feed crickets dusted in calcium with d3 and ocassionally vitamins. some of those bugs have a high fat content or other things that can cause problems for your frog and should only be used as a snack.
I know I shouldn't but I do live in the country, I don't use pesticides or any other chemicals outside. None.
well im not positive to how far bugs can travel but i know in the country area (near where i live) there are tons of corn fields, cotten fields, etc and im sure they use some sort of pesticide. not sure how close your nearest neighbor is or nearest ANYTHING for that matter. but i DO NOT recommend it. you never know what those bugs may have come across in the wild nor which of your neighbors have used pesticides. these bugs can get a hold of anything out there.
although i will admit.....i have found a couple huge waterbugs in my room and fed them to my chinese water dragon.
but red eyes are fragile. a lot more fragile than my lizard. and i would only feed them food i KNOW is ok for them. i have the same compassion for my lizard, but she is a little more hardy than my frogs.
Wow! i didn't even think of that! Thanks!
