What is the minimum cage size for one adult red-eyed tree frog? Is 12 x 12 x 18 large enough?
It is enough in the "minimum" sense, if it is properly furnished with branches, plants and climbing surfaces. In the long term, however, I would recommend at least a 20 gallon (yours is about 11 gallons), especially if you plan on adding a tankmate later on. Vertical space is more important than horizontal.
Thank you. I hadn't realised that they were considered social animals. I will look for a tank mate and a larger cage.
How would I go about introducing a new frog? Do they have to be the same size? There is someone selling juveniles locally, but mine is an adult (female I think from the size).
I wasn't suggesting you look for another frog immediately, or at all. Red eyes do socialize, but they don't get lonely. Having one by itself is fine. I was simply suggesting that a larger cage would give you the option of adding another frog, if you decide to later, without to having build another vivarium.
