Hey, so i was wondering if American Toads like to climb? If so what to you guys recommend to use. I have a 20 gallon tank with one log for it to climb on right now but it doesn't seem to like it that much. Thanks a lot. (ps i'm new here)

They use to do it in the past; but with our recent governments and the status of the economy, it's safer to stay close to the ground or even buried
!
Joking aside, groung dwelling toads are not climbers. They will roam their enclosure and go up a sloped substrate, but no climbing is normal. You can arrange decor and substrate to your advantage. Maybe use a log to hold back a higher substrate level accesible by like a ramp and your toad might use it... or not. Good luck!
Remember to take care of the enclosure and it will take care of your frog!
Welcome TrymNois,
Toads like to hide in little caves and would enjoy one. They also love to bury in their substrate.
I would still recommend you have a nice screened lid on the tank with something to weigh it down or lid clamps. Tiny toadlets can climb the glass if it is misted. Heavier juveniles and adults generally have no desire to even try and do not have suction-pad feet as do tree frogs. However, they are pretty strong for little toads and can push and lift things. If they enjoy their homes there should be no effort to try and get out.

Thanks. I have a fish tank lid with a screen under it and i open the flap on the fish tank lid ever morning. I have the tank outside under a tree in so when it rains i close the flap. And it was on the log this morning so i think i'll leave it in there. Thanks a lot for all the help i have been getting.![]()

Just be careful too much water doesn't get into the tank and drown the little guy.
You're welcome.

I put a piece of wood over the back as well but i leave propped up a bit using pine cones for ventilation then i put a brick on top.

Well then I must have freakish toads since mine do like to climb and sit on top on rocks, logs, tall hides, you name it, young & old alike.
