i read that meal worms will eat my toads stomach inside out!!!! is this true? and if it is, is there a way to get around it? maybe if i cut off the heads of the mealworms and...
A mealworm would drown by the time is is able to chew through lol. This is a myth.
Although I've never known of pets being damaged; have also read warnings about all pinced (beetle larva) worms. Maybe it's a myth... but don't think anyone here wants to find out the other way. If using them, just behead them with a sharp knife and worries gone
.
I don't use them as feeders because of their high fat content and hard chitin exoskeleton. Got them once for large fish and they were passing thru into feces pretty much undigested. Also, because of that, they can cause impaction. Good luck
!
Remember to take care of the enclosure and it will take care of your frog!
I have also herd of this myth. try this put a few in your hand and hold them under water until they are dead. Do this with 24 or so if they are biting your hand then you will know. I am not talking nibbles i am talking biting, they bite hard so you will know what a bite is or if they are just wiggling. use hot water this will surly set them off in such ways stomach acid will. Dont worry they cant hurt you. but their bite might be startling. i tryied this with a very large species of cricket and they bit me hard. so i stopped feeding them about 6 months later the stores stopped selling them because of that reason. meal worms will not bite near as hard as this cricket did.
