i just seen a bunch of tiny white larvae looking things in my toads water bowl.the only insects that have been in with them are crickets, fruit flies, mealworms ,and the asian ladybugs that have been getting into their enclosure.the toads do eat the ladybugs.
ive had the toads for 2 months.
this is my first post so i hope to recieve some good info from this site.thanks fellas!
Hello and welcome to FF Steve. If on water surface they probably are inoffensive springtails and you should also see them around in the ground. That's the only thing can think off, that could be found in water bowl. If you rinse and refill it daily with dechlorinated water, no larvae should grow there.
Remember to take care of the enclosure and it will take care of your frog!
hey thank you for the reply..i am new to toads and full of questions to keep these guys comfortable as possible.im pretty sure you are correct.the white things are springtails.next question is,is it ok to put rosy red minnows in the water bowl as a food source for my toads and maybe to feed on the springtails.i seen the springtails on my toads and wondered if thats ok..
i feed them crickets, mealworms.and they seem to be eating the gnats that fly into their enclosure.i just put 8 rosy reds in and they have already ate one and attempted to eat more with no luck yet.lol..thanks for the reply
You are welcome. Problem with feeding RR Minnows is that they could be a source of parasites and other pathogens to your Toads

Here is a recent close-up photo of some springtails.
