Hello i will be getting a baby pacman frog a few days after Xmas.I was wondering at what age do they start calling, how frequent they call, and how lout they call?thanks![]()
Well you only need worry about the frog calling if it turns out to be a male. Females are more widely available than males so chances ore about 40% chance of getting a male. Maybe even 30%. Males begin to start calling at around 2.5 inches in length. So depending on growth determined by food intake and genetics it could be 1.5 months to 2 months before a male will practice calling. This sounds somewhat like a teenage boy going through puberty where his voice cracks all the time.
So don't worry about the call unless you really end up with a male. They cannot be accurately sexed until around the size SVL I mentioned. A male will develope dark mole like spots on each thumb called Nuptial Pads. This is how you sex these frogs.
Their call can be quite loud, but they don't do it all the time. You get used to it and is no different in audiobility than a dog barking.
The call is really quite cute, mine does it most nights I go in to him and chat to him , or whistle to him to start him off lol. as long as he is not in your bedroom you may not hear it, but thats only if it ends up even being male!
Thanks for your help!but it turns out i got a tomato frog lol
