I was wondering if thee are some different things I could feed a red eyed tree frog. My mother does not like crickets and I want the easiest thing to feed. This would be the staple of his diet. Thanks in advance!![]()
Hello and welcome to FF! Main diet for RETFs are live insects. That includes gut loaded crickets, roaches like Dubia, moths, etc. All should be sized same as distance between frog's eyes. You can feed crickets and roaches in a small glass bowl and they won't escape.
Remember to take care of the enclosure and it will take care of your frog!
How about blue bottle flies?
My little firebellies love them. They are easy to eat and softer than crickets. I bet your little guys would love them.
Could I feed flightless fruit flies?
I was searching the internet today, and I found these Zoo Med Labs Can O' Crickets - 1.2 oz:Amazon:Pet Supplies Do you think these would work?
No, they need live insects. If feeding live insects is an issue; recommend then to keep either African Dwarf Frogs (5-10 gallon tank accroding to numbers) or the larger African Clawed Frogs (20L tank for 2-3 frogs. Both are aquatic species that will do OK on a diet of Reptomin pellets and thawed out frozen foods.
Remember to take care of the enclosure and it will take care of your frog!
