Hey everyone! I need some help with a tadpole ID. I noticed it hanging out in the water plant section of my local pet store and they ended up giving it to me. I am taking a wild guess that is a bullfrog of some sort, based on size, but confirmation would be great. As well, I have never, ever, raised a frog from a tadpole stage. I have it in a 5 gallon tank right now. Questions:
1) Does it need a filter?
2) Does it need heat?
3) What the heck do I feed it?
Any info ASAP would be greatly appreciated!
Pics would be helpful, eh??? Lol-sorry, too excited to work a computer!!
That is an american bullfrog tadpole, have raised one in the past. Tadpoles need clean water so a low powered filter can be used, if you don't mind changing the water every day. It is also vital the water has oxygen in it. To feed the tadpole, boil spinach and lettuce, then chop it up and freeze it. Put a small amount in each day. And for heat, room temperature is fine. Hope this helps!
Thank you-that does help! I will get it properly set up and go from there. I think I detect some back legs forming already, so I hope it will be in frog form soon.
I agree, definately American Bullfrog. You can also feed it tropical flake fish food.
I hope you save some room Jo-Anna, I have three frogs for you.![]()
Thanks, Paul. And don't worry...I am already working on the set up for the new Pacific Chorus Frogs....and where they will go and a whole page of names ready for when I actually see them. I am so still so excited-and impatient!!
