well i caught an american bullfrog about a month ago he was a skinny little thing ive been feeding him dubias and alot of crickets( now he is plump) and cleaning his water everyday and he seems to be very happy he doesnt jump and hide anymore when i approach his tank, he actually i think is comfortable with me now and eats like a champ. last week he started to call about 5-7 croaks in a row then he will stop. i was wondering do only males do this or do females do this too i read only males but he is only like 2.5 to 3 inches long s/v length and he now calls every night how old are they when they start to call. ill post pics of him tonight he is an awesome little guy that loves to eat and is pretty active. if its a male i wanna get him a girlfriend when i move him into his 75 gallon aquarium soon he is currently in a 40 breeder with large water bowl.
Hi, Sounds like your Bullfrog is really happy and even healthier thanks to you. I have heard that with certain species of Bullfrogs the females croak as well as the male so the members on the forum who keep Bullfrogs will be able to help you with that. I look forward to seeing the photo's.![]()
Only the males call. Sounds like a bass violin.
Actually, the females will call, but only during a primarily male breeding chorus. Supposedly they do it to get more competition out of the males and make mate discrimination easier.
In any event, with bullfrogs, if the tympanum (ear drum) is MUCH bigger than the eye, it is male.
his ear is bigger than his eye it looks like but i was wondering if he is too young to be calling for a mate. he isnt big at all about 3 inches s-v. and he calls its low and deep but he extends his neck out pretty fer when he does it ill put pic up tonight i couldnt find my camera last night i wanna know for sure if its a male. thanks
hey i was also wondering which get bigger males or females
the females get bigger.
