hey y'all I haven't posted in awhile been really busy but I have a medical emergency - this toad I just found seems to have thrown up her stomach?? its hanging out of her mouth and she's visibly distressed. idk how long its been there as I just walked outside and found her looking miserable. ill post pics asap. is there anything I can do for her besides making her comfortable??? I'm gonna contact the local wildlife rescue as soon as they open and if they don't take her I'll probably look on amazon for cat gut suture thread and scalpel[I've done surgery in the past and have taken classes that taught how to suture properly] and cut the stomach open, empty it, and sew it back up and stick it back in. will this work? I'm considering putting her down for her own goodpossible causes? maybe she ate something weird?
good news everyone! I woke up this morning to a normal toad.... apparently they just...... do that?? lol well I'm glad she's ok but boy did she give me a scareI'll still post before and after pics.
here’s the before when her stomach was out
and here’s after she put it back in
man that toad is cute. is she an american toad. i wouldnt think because her face is so thin and she doesnt have those big bumbs and spots. what is she. also i read about a bettle called the bombariar bettle or something and its able to make a frog puke it up, idk mabey she ate one of those
I Believe she is a Gulf coast toad. She has the cranial ridges and markings of the gulf coast toad and they are very common around here. I released her yesterday because she was eating. She really is cute! Her name is Laura. Hopefully she sticks around. She probably did eat something weird - toads are definitely not the smartest creatures!
cool up hear in northern il we dont get a very diverse group of species. we have high numbers of american toads however alot of northern green frogs and alot of bullfrogs wich shouldnt be here. those guys are every where here. i wish we had more herps here lol
wait i take that back on the bullfrogs. they should be here but they are a pain to keep in your pond because they will eat all the frogs until they are the only frog in your pond
Oh yeah bullfrogs are hungry bois lol
