I'm soon to be setting up my first ever tree frog terrarium, The frogs won't be going in until a couple of months after set up, To allow the plants time to grow in and for me to get the temps and humidity just right.
I originally decided on Whites tree frogs as they are always recommended for beginners, However having read up a bit and seen pics of Amazon milk frogs I am now being swayed in their direction.![]()
After doing some research it seems that care for both species is very similar.
Set up will be something like:
45x45x60cm exo terra terrarium
exo terra compact light canopy with UV bulbs
20w heat mat on the side
large bowl of water
coir and leaf litter substrate
Naturally planted with Pothos,Syngonium and some bromeliads
Plenty of branches and hiding places
Any recommendations on which species would be best for a beginner?
Thanks for your time.![]()
If you are deciding between the two...I would go with which ever frog really interests you. Don't be afraid because you've read somewhere that one is for beginners and the other isn't. The care between the two is very similar and they are both Hardy frogs. You also seem to have your act together, you've got a great tank, and you sound like your more than ready to care fog them. The most important thing is getting a healthy frog to start out with. Avoid the chain pet stores, only buy captive bred frogs and you'll have no problems. Spend a little more and buy directly from a reputable breeder. Before you buy from a particular place ask others on the forum here if the place your looking at sells quality frogs. So my advice to you is dont be afraid, get the frog you want, just start off with a healthy frog.
Thanks for the advice guys.
I think I'm steering towards the milk frogs.![]()
Those are very beautiful frogs. Show us a picture of your setup when you're ready. We'd love to see it.
