Hi
I recently accquiered some black field crickets and I started of with 35 Jabba ate one and three were eaten by the other crickets, so just a few questions.
Is it normal for the crickets to be eating each other? (it always seems to be males that get eaten)
Are they being eaten because they're fighting for breeding rights?
How long do the eggs take to hatch? (eggs were laid nearly 2 weeks ago and they have laid them day by day)
Thanks to antone who helps.
There is a very well written article to the left titled Culturing Crickets. Im sure it will answer all your cricket questions.
my crix too 2 weeks to hatch, but the common petstore kind. Keep spraying, keep them damp, mine even dried out a bit everyday, and still a swarm. I didn't use heat to incubate them, so it took longer, but if u heat them it's quicker. U could just have them lay in a to-go container and put it on top of floresent hood of your viv, that'll speed them up.
As far as them eating eachother, could be lack of space or need of more vitamins. I made cricket food according to article, and give them bonito (jap fish flake) and nori (seaweed) and any peels from veggies or fruit.
Good luck don't give up!!
Hey thanks for the replies great advice
